Why do people blog? Are product reviews a way to gain control?

NOTE: I AM NOT AIMING THIS AT ANY PUBLIC RELATION FIRMS WHO REPRESENT BRANDS.  SO BEFORE ANYONE WANTS TO MAKE ME OUT LIKE I AM, I AM NOT.

So, a measurable amount of my time lately has been invested in to the blogosphere.

My thoughts on private parties and business pertaining to the internet: I don’t think person A should ever go and say something to person B about person C, without persons A, B, & C being there, especially when it comes to the internet and blogosphere.  This will never result in the truth coming out or being said and it will cause more problems in the long run.

I started my blog about 3 plus months ago, and I really did not have an intention on why I wanted to start it.  I did have the thought of getting a review to do here and there and how that would be cool.  I have gotten a couple of things courtesy of a connection I have, and I have reviewed them.  I got something I liked, I talked about it, and then I wrote about it.  I don’t have enough time to create a review blog, so that was never my intention.

I have found that it is not as easy as one could think, but it is possible to create a blog with some original content.  Every post I have done was a reflection of something on that date that I thought about or saw.  Obviously, you can take that however you want, but remember WE all think to ourselves, and we all have our individual life’s and thoughts.  There has been so many times when I thought to myself and even said to Kristin, “That would be a great blog post” after I talked her ear off about something that really drew interest from me.  So many topics, but so little time.  I have not done what I wanted to do, but someday I hope to get there.

So when I see people saying they are going to use their clout to bring somebody and their blogging “influence” down, it is plain sad.  Seriously.  People are actually out there using their reputation and the way they act to people as a means to ruin others.  Let me explain it better. Say I go to many events where PR reps go and so do bloggers.  I meet and mingle and put on a good show.  We all know what I mean, put on a fake face and smile and act like you/they are the best person in the world, because your honest and there.  Many call this FAKE.  But, this is what people do every day, which is fine.  Ok, but where can this behavior cross the line.  Is it when you actually tell someone that you will use your clout to ruin someone’s online appearance and reputation because you don’t like what someone is saying?

HOW BOUT THIS: What if a PR rep told a blogger that if they do not do what they said, they will use the fact that they know other and MORE PR people that they have established relationships with, that they will go and bad mouth you to them and make the blogger out to be some kind of a liability, like supposedly I am (someone, not a PR firm, said this about/to me.)  Is this something that people REALLY practice online, intimidation and coercion?  I understand this kin do behavior in a job or competition environment, but not in the online blogging world where everyone is mostly for themselves.  It’s funny one minute SOME bloggers are saying they will use their blogs to make some PR firm’s look bad, next minute I am the liability, when I don’t even care what PR firms do, because it’s not my decision.  But I going to be made out to be a liability for people I know to PR firms.

If any PR firms out there think I am a liability for blogging about a select few who have talked about me, then I guess there is nothing IO can do about that, but don’t use that against people I know.  Not really fair.

I also want to mention before anyone tries to make me out to be a bad person here, I find nothing wrong with reviews and I would never use my blog to “extort” things from people, like 1 person said I might try.  How else are people supposed to use the internet to really find out about something?  I do not think they is anything wrong with doing reviews on a blog, but my issue above is not about PR firms, bloggers, or anything, but directly about personal character.

I admit much of my experience with the blogosphere has been based around bloggers working for reviews.  I know since I am a nobody, my opinion doesn’t matter or count here, but I have seen so much shit, and it’s sad.  Seriously, is this it has always been like, or has the trash talking, lies, and threats gotten out of hand more?  I read all kinds of things about where people see social media and blogging heading, and I don’t think people should be kicked off that train by others, just because those others were on it before them.

The reason I talk about issues like these is not only have they have affected me personally, but I am also interested on how others outside of review and blogging look on this.  Such as PR people, people reading things, or word of mouth.  I am sure people who have nothing to do with review blogging could care less, and I also understand that.

I made my blog as a way to try and communicate ideas or thoughts I had to hopefully, an unbiased audience of other internet people like myself.  I have found there some that will tell you what to do and what to say and I need to watch what I say because they will use their clout to bring me or those around me down.  OK, the net doesn’t pay my rent or bills, so I don’t think I have to worry.  But it can affect people around me.  WHAT?

Anyways, I have made all my points throughout my blog, on my LIMITED problems I have experienced online.

Also I write my own blog.  Some select people keep telling Kristin that I am making her look bad, and that I am speaking for her.  I am not, and she cannot make me say anything I would not want to, just like I can’t make her say what she needs to.  We are separate and just because we both have a blog, doesn’t mean she writes my blog or can change it.  Just in case anyone wants to email her talking about me.  ITS MY BLOG.  She has never asked me ONCE to say anything; just like she has never once said anything I said she should tell people (she is too nice sometimes.)  I have said all the things I have ever said, because they piss me off, not cause she wanted me to.  But I guess I cannot even use the net to vent when I want, without damaging Kristin reputation.

Anyways, I plan to blog about some interesting thoughts I have about my outlook on social media and what I observe.  I know I have never said I am an expert and professional, but I am college educated and I do have some knowledge on political media and its effects on society, and this is one reason I find all of this online community behavior interesting.
