For father’s day for 2010, we decided to take a trip to Tillamook for a day of good times and great pictures. The weather was perfect, and the drive is calming. Tillamook is situated southwest of Portland, OR. For those who may know, Tillamook cheese is some good cheese and I think is distributed now nationwide. I have been a fan of Tillamook from the days of a kid growing up in Portland, especially their ice cream. I never realized how big they would become, but then again when you’re a kid most don’t think of companies becoming nationwide brands.

I take pride in Oregon. I was born in Salem, OR so I guess it is natural. I have been all around the western half of the state, and need to visit the eastern side. We are planning a few day camping trip in eastern Oregon. There are areas where you can find marine fossils at elevations in the thousands of feet. There are also areas of fossils from land animals and minerals and crystals to be spotted. The national state rock of Oregon is the thunderegg and the state gemstone is the sunstone. These can be found along with other gemstones and such in south eastern Oregon. Oregon is known for its volcanic activity and much of its geological treasures.

If any of you read my wife Kristin’s blog www.ourordianrylife.com, you would know how strongly she/we feel on naturally made foods especially organic products. Some quick facts on organic info include hormone free animals, animals that do not feed on pesticide laced food, cattle with very little to no antibiotic use, and their natural environment.

Many dairy farmers these days have chosen to not use rBST which is recombinant bovine somatotropin aka hormones. Much of this can be attributed to marketing practices, but many believe along with us, that the more natural it is, the better. Maybe we are crazy, but luckily we have the free choice. The groups who are fully against hormone use and high levels of antibiotics believe that future problems like cancers are higher due to increased levels of estrogen as more and more milk is produced. There are some other theories, but I figure why not drink milk the natural way, from cows that are allowed to live a more healthy life, whom are free to roam and eat green grasses. Shoot, they even have enough room to lay down.

Happy Cows Come From Tillamook, Oregon

Tillamook is largely known for their dairy products and cattle industry. The cows in these neck of the woods are locally raised and grazing animals. If you know NW Oregon, you know its trees and more trees. And the areas that don’t have trees; the western side of the state, has fields full of vegetation which is what you have in Tillamook. With the moisture brought on from the ocean, its allows green fields to flourish allowing cows to graze on healthy greens. I am sure with an abundance of food; cows can produce more milk than animals stressed out and crammed into pens. The reason I guess I feel strongly on this issue is my experience with seeing cows raised naturally and cows that are raised for commerce(commercial) purposes which makes me think about the quality of product they produce.

We travel to California once a year for Disneyland and we usually drive. If you have made the drive and pass along 1-5 through central California, you get a glimpse of several large cattle reserves of California cows. I am not trying to diss on California, but “happy cow’s come from Oregon” and maybe its should be “content cows come from California.” I am drawing this conclusion by pure observation. But then again it’s clear that Tillamook is not a cattle town made to mass produce livestock, and feed our cattle is easier to with our wetter greener lands.

I did find out from @tillamookcheese on twitter that they do use controlled antibiotics, just not industrially applied. Many cows that are basically created for use and consumption, get pumped full of antibiotics to prevent disease before they start. Just like in humans it is not good to overuse antibiotics that are not needed and the reason is that a tolerance can be built up and resistances created against antibiotic strains. My thing is I am sick of pumping my body full of chemicals and who knows what else. Food has changed in it’s very nature and much of it during my lifetime. I will not fall in line with the status-quo and I have taken steps to alter the market in whatever ways I can.

With all the health problems affecting people, and me myself being 15+ lbs overweight, I have decided to make a change. I don’t want my children eating food that may hurt them. Highly processed foods which include fast foods have little to no nutritional value and are actually bad for us to eat by giving us less energy, more free radicals to damage cells, and a wide range of health problems. I loved fast food, but the industrially-made packaged crap has to be reduced and changed. Many know this, but I don’t think everyone takes into consideration what this would actually require.

Tillamook Cheese Factory

So our first stop upon arrival was the Tillamook Cheese Factory. It is the actually factory, and it also has a tour area with viewing of the facility. You can see the machines that cut, slice, and package the cheese. Also are the large mixing tanks used to create their tasty dairy products. They have fresh from the source ice cream in I think 30 or more flavors and a full shop with every product they offer along with many hand crafted items local to Oregon and some from Washington. Great treats. We got some local things including candied smoked salmon, Handmade raspberry jam, natural batter for fish, honey glazed local jerky, Alpenrose Swiss chocolate milk (local milk company, best you can find), and some other items. All of these things are from Oregon. There really is a large selection of good quality foods that we can find here in Oregon. It does cost a little more, but makes me think more about wasting food that we prepare. It’s good to practice conservation. We also got a pin signifying our trip with Kaila to the cheese factory. We have picked her out a pin from every place she has taken for a trip, and she is gaining a large collection.

Blue Heron French Cheese Company’s Petting Zoo

We went next to the Blue Heron French Cheese Company. This property has a restaurant, gift shop, and full wine tasting offering their vintages and more. It also has an ultra friendly petting zoo. They make their own cheeses and wines, plus offer a huge selection of local foods. They have it all. What we really like about this place is the petting area for Kaila and now Brooklin. They have a fenced off area where you can purchase their in-house pet food and hand feed sheep, goats, and alpaca, and other animals. Kaila loved feeding the animals and it is always fun when kids get to interact with them. We ate some lunch and picked up homemade wrapped licorice and caramel.

Tillamook Air Museum

Or next stop was the Tillamook Air museum. This is a huge hanger that was created for WWII to house large airships better known as blimps. This was a good history lesson. These hangers were created all along the west and east coasts. Some are still up and not been taken down and one of those is this one here. There were actually 2 on this site, but they removed one. These hangers could hold 8 k-Ships which were roughly 150 ft long. They unfortunately do not have blimps anymore, but they have a selection of older pre and post WWII fighter jets including an F14 fighter jet. They have a history room with great pictures dating back to the days of use for this hanger. They also have a bunch of memorabilia, but to a 5 year old, it was pretty boring but I enjoyed it.

We walked around it and got a bunch of pictures. Kaila liked to see the large aircraft. She thought at first they were not real. That’s what we get for taking her to amusement parks; she thinks it’s all made for show. It was cool to see all the planes up close and touch them and inspect them.

Gun Turret, Airship Hanger Locations, Early Air Drones, Big Engine

When leaving the Museum we drove through some back roads to show Kaila where all the cows who produce the milk for cheese come from. She was excited to see all the cows in patches and on the many different farms. I myself think that it is good that they have large open green spaces. Plus its seems many farms are are independent. They look like they may even be getting a little too lazy. I could see them do a lazy “Moooooo” as they sit back and chew their green grass. A fact I came across from oregon.com is that milk was made the state beverage in 1997 because its impact on our economy. It feels good to know that our diary industry is strong and that it continues to make quality product while allowing farmers do it right. I am no expert on this all, but I have made informed decisions and I am not trying to bullshit anyone.

It was a great trip, a little overcast but no rain, which is a hit-and-miss type of deal when dealing with the Oregon coast around this time. There were a lot of families doing the father day outing in Tillamook and it was good to see all the people enjoying the day. I am sure everyone had a good father’s day in some way if not all, and I just wanted to take the time to write about another day I will never forget.

I do try and read a little on social media topics and trends that are currently working their way around the blogosphere. With Kristin’s involvement in blogging, I have gotten involved with what happens in her life, as it is only right for me to be concerned and interested in what she does.

If have written here on my blog, a little on my take with mom bloggers and problems.

So I came across this article titled “Do Big Brands Exploit Mommy Bloggers Who Work for “Prizes and Rewards”?”

Now this is nothing new if you pay attention to how and why companies want or need to work with these “moms” who “blog.” Kristin falls into this category so I have been aware of what happens and how some things work.

Nestlé’s approach to mom and dad bloggers was a somewhat failure for them. They got the bloggers to come and say what was needed. They got press from it, but sparked a lot of controversy. So much that it continues onto this day in that pseudo case study of brands and bloggers.

What I did find to be a very good point in the above article is the mention of 3rd parties being the go-between of bloggers and brands. I do give those companies respect for the idea, but sometimes it can seem as if these bloggers are getting exploited, not always by the brands but the “third-parties in charge of wrangling the mom bloggers to do the actual work.”(McGary) What would be interesting is to know what companies such as Mom Central and other blogger networks make in compensation for wrangling the bloggers.

Here are some of my thoughts.

Even though you may think you are getting the “shaft” just remember not everything in life should come easy and free. Many successful individuals I am sure would tell you that hard work does and will pay off. It’s like with an entry-level paying job, you start from the bottom doing the crap work and getting paid less, but many current CEOs started in that position. It was a lot of hard work that will help you climb that ladder.

Just because a person makes a free website and invest $10 into a domain name, does not entitle them to a paycheck or a 1099 form. I can help you start a clean thesis theme, reliable private server hosting, and your domain for about $200 installed, functioning, and reliable . But that is not what will help you succeed. Good content is what keeps people really interested. And those search engines like to search blogs that have a lot of good content that people want to read about. These happen to include anything you could possibly think of. You have to get your foot in the door. If you are given and internship and the chance at a huge multi-billion dollar firm, are you going to turn down the position and demand they give you a management position and top pay?

I am just putting this out there as advice. You can do and say what you want, but remember people will not come and say to you, “we decided not to work with you because you’re a liability and you compain to much,” instaed they will just not contact you period. It is good at times to advocate your intentions and opinion, but like with anything in real life you need to know when to zip it and when to just suck it up.

I do think that brands and the PR firms that represent them should consider the fact that some bloggers out there do a lot more work than others, and some of them hopefully do. And I do not just mean what bloggers do only on their blog, but in their real lives. It is true that a couple of coupons and a $15 item that you may use just to review will not pay that internet bill that keeps one online.

Maybe companies think that the overhead and cost of living should be paid for by the spouse, but like we all know as well as the large companies, incentives and compensation creates better rewards for success. No one does anything for free unless it’s charitable work, community service, or some other reason. But bloggers who really do invest into themselves and their blogs will hopefully and eventually succeed regardless of the norm.

I am done with my comment, but I figured I would post it here just in case it was moderated.

With the sunny weather we are having in Oregon, I decided to take the family out for a trip to our local giant historical waterfall, Multnomah Falls. There is still a lot of snow on Mt. Hood which does add to the falls flow.

I have always had a love for nature and getting out these days does not have too much nature involved in it. What can you do? Go out to the park, which many are overlooked, or they overlook a house(s) or business.

I know that is just part of living in a populated area and big city, but it is always good to make sure you truly get out and experience and see nature for yourself with your own eyes. It is good for your self-being and relaxation and stress management.

One of the best parts to experiencing nature is the pictures. We are still learning and playing with our new Nikon D90. Nature provides for some of the best shots possible. Oregon is known for historical landmarks I am thinking about trying to showcase them which would be a good way to get practice. Below are some pictures we took of Multnomah Falls and the Columbia River Gorge.

I also have a short video I took of the river flowing what looked to be upstream and east. Some info about the Columbia River, it flows from Canada through Washington State and Oregon flowing west into the Pacific Ocean. Since that recent earthquake in Chile, I am taking it that the surges from the Ocean made their way up the Columbia. It’s weird because I have never noticed the river this calm and flowing the wrong way. Check out my pictures.

Welcome to Beaverton, basically SW Portland, OR.

We have had a sudden flowering of trees and bushes around my city. I have never had a real problem with allergies in my life until the end of last summer in 2009. I had the same thing as I do now, hay fever, along with what seems like a mild cold. It sucks.

To start combating the problem, I took some sinus stuff like Benadryl, and that knocked me out. I am cool on that option. It worked for a little, then I passed out, both times I used it.

I replaced the furnace filter, which was completely filled with dander. I would recommend checking on this periodically, but for the allergy season, replace it. I went with the maximum filtration and it seems to help. I will let it run constantly on auto fan to filter the air inside.

I don’t know what else to do. Maybe look into Claritin? Or just deal with it. It’s hard; my head feels light and congested. I have been sitting over a humidifier on and off, but that doesn’t do too much.

I wanted to share some pictures in response to a tweet I was sent from @twistedxtian “you have flowers blooming? In Feb? I want to live where you are.” If you have allergies it’s not fun. But it does make for some beautiful weather. They are already predicting a drought for the summer, so I guess it’s time for me to get used to it.

Give us some of our cold weather back East Coast.

I know I don’t do much with my blog these days. When I look back on some of the posts that I had published on my blog, I do not really see too much of what I originally started my blog for on display. At least everything I have created on my blog has been about issues that have affected me, too bad some has been on things that I have no control over, It’s funny how many of the posts that my blog gained some knowing for, were over problems that are very childish. Not too much I can do about it now.

Regardless of the content, my blog does have a Google page rank of a 4, so I guess it has not been all of a complete waste. It may get dropped, but that’s the name of the game. Maybe if I stick at it I can do more with www.delthedad.com. I have thought at times “maybe I should stick to it, and write about things that are relevant to me and my life.” That is what I said I created my blog for since the beginning, so I will try to stick with it.

Even though I am not active on my blog, I still keep up on maintenance which plainly is spam removal. I haven’t really thought of what will come of me and blogging, but maybe if I really give it some effort, something positive could come about. I have always thought I would like to write out articles on issues that I have some deep thoughts about. Maybe some can benefit from my posts on real topics for thought.

I guess, like with many blogs I see out there, the question “why did I create this blog” is mentioned by many. Maybe it is people wondering where they can I fit in? I experienced a lot and have learned a lot with Kristin along her many years of blogging. Tough lessons have also been learned but that is just a part of life. But like with all lessons, it has added to experience. Maybe I have been a little timid on what I do with my blog, since I do not know it all. When I do speak, I am sure I have my facts straight and everything else will be unveiled.

Over the years I have somewhat kept up with what goes on in the social media realm concerning bloggers and public relations. I simply look at it all as insight into an important aspect regarding the future of business communications around the world and into people’s homes. Many people have created blogs to try and make some money, but I think many have also realized that it is not as easy as one may think. My advice, be real and be honest. Make a blog for something in your interest. Of course you can make it strictly to gain, but I think it only makes it that much harder. I will try and do some posts on blogging tips. I have real experience with helping Kristin and some others, and I have always been successful so far.

Just a little more to bore you. I have always been a fan of technologies and social media tools. I had always taken part in the online interactive mediums since back in the days of America Online and their dial up (this is back in the mid 90’s.) I did fall away from computers and the online world up till I met Kristin. Don’t get me wrong, I did not use computer, but I used them more for a tool to gather information and other business purposes. She took it a step future and used it as a digital online scrapbook which plainly was a website, but these days better referred to as a blog. I think about how far the online communities have come and I am curious on how where and far they will go.

Watching what Kristin does has introduced me to a lot of new information and experience with ho some of the current online tools. I am fascinated by the inner workings. I have seen how people interact online, ways you can really have success from a blog, the good and the bad of blogging, along with many other subjects brought about. I have seen some parts of blogging go through changes which have been very fascinating. Kristin’s blog www.ourordianrylife.com was successful and she does not plan to give it up anytime soon.

But that is all fine and dandy for her. What should I do with my blog? My hesitation with blogging I think is that life is very hectic. When I have felt that I would like to publish something that I think would add importance to my blog, the atmosphere is chaotic. Kristin is gone with both of the kids, and it is completely quiet here. I am enjoying it while it lasts, but I think that will end here shortly. The peacefulness is nice.

So maybe I will try and take the time to do something more with my blog. I wonder sometimes if what I put in a post will matter, but I can look at it as tuning my skills of writing. I do enjoy writing in my head, but when it comes time to put it down to see, it seems not so easy. But maybe it is just the noise. I think I will try and put more into my blog.

Well I guess I got enough out this round bout, since the family just walked back in. The silence was broken as I heard them get out of the car outside. I heard them, even before they opened the door. It was nice while it lasted, and it gave me some time to think on what I will do with my blog for the new year of 2010. I have some ideas and I guess it’s all about putting them out there for others to read and possible take something from.

Good luck to all bloggers this year and hopefully everyone has a positive experience.

Disney was nice to give Kristin and us all free day passes to Disneyland and California Adventure. They also gave us one night for free at the Grand Californian plus we are staying an additional night to take it all in. Thanks Disney!

So we started our journey for Christmas to Southern California yesterday. We are visiting Kristin’s family in California for the Holidays and having a late Christmas with mine when we get back. Kaila is one lucky little girl this year and much of it can be credited to Kristin. So we left Portland, OR yesterday at about 6:00am. We arrived in Sacramento, CA around 5:00pm and left there this morning at 7:00am. We made it to San Fernando Valley at about 1:30pm hoping to avoid traffic to Anaheim, CA. Traffic was not too bad and we arrived right at check-in time 3:00pm. We are here and loving it. We are all super excited and this will be something that Kaila will always remember, along with Kristin and I.

We left lovely freezing and rainy Portland, OR weather and arrived a day later, about 1,000 miles south in Anaheim, CA with 75 degree weather and a slight haze of clouds (could be con trails from all the planes, but regardless its awesome, someone up there is making sure our Christmas is great). Tomorrow the weather at Disneyland is supposed to be 80 degrees and clear and the same for the day after for California Adventure. Kristin will be writing more on all this, but I wanted to make my own post since I haven’t done much on here.

From Oregon (yesterday in Central Oregon) to Central California (about 200 miles south of Stockton today)

Arriving at our Hotel the Disney Grand. And some views from our room.

So I had to make this post real quick. This is in reply to: http://www.mommygoggles.com/cyberstalking/.

Tanya wants to use this a way to try and bash Kristin’s character, without letting people know what it is in response to, go figure, so ethical by covering up YOUR opposing side:

And I did not cause Kristin to be dropped from Mom Central. I did not even have a blog or twitter when you had made your lies up to MC. So don’t blame that on me, you had more to do with that then me. And again, you made a clear example of your mean ways.

You made sure to say “girlfriend” even though you know we have been engaged for some while (and my marriage situation is my own, so attack it if you need.) You have tried to take stabs at Kristin for us not being married. Its seems to me that you are trying to paint her out as a single mother who is not wedded who guzzles wine while pregnant.

And about the picture, she knows who took it; she was there so was others who know exactly what happened. We have been in contact with the person who took the picture through email. She told us that you had been wanting that picture (which she says she took on her own, and not you asking her, but I am still weary of that answer) so she gave it to trisha and alicia at momdot.com. Then you got wind/hold of it and spun it on Kristin. Started a post back some time, and then starting the twitter @notordinarylife.

I think you started that twitter because its sole intention back when started was to spread that picture along with your lie. Then you found out during the #hallmark hashtag on twitter that no one believed you or cared, so you quit that same night. Then it came back about Karie. Did you let her sister use it? Or you took what her sister said, and posted it and took care of it. Like you said yourself, your good at what you do, little too cocky.

Off track, and back to the issue of the above twitter post by Kristin. Just to let you all know tanya made that comment into something more than it was to try and get people against Kristin. Below is what caused Kristin to say what she did. Kristin nor I, had not even said or even mentioned MommyJenna, and out of nowhere we both get confronted with the below tweet. This is why Kristin said what she did, and anyone who knows Kristin knows she is a foster kid who found her dad dead one day, so she is not going to put up with some stranger coming up and throwing that in her face.

You know that is kind of unfair is to let in one side of the story, especially when it is the one that you need to try and fit your lie. It seems that you and your new found partner in blogging trisha is good at that. You think it helps to make you out to be the victim, but just to let you know, not everyone is a complete idiot.

Tanya, you lies is the only reason why I have stood up for Kristin. Here is your friend the themorrisbunch.com telling someone that the jokes talked about Kristin on momdot was OK, and she was just joking about it, no harm. But when the situation is this bad, and no one knows Kristin side, because momdot and mommygoggles tries to use its influence to bully her and keep people away from her, I had seen enough. There is also a private chat that Karie had with Jena, where Jena even admits to in what she calls them “jokes,” that some of you started about boxing gloves for the BlogHer event for your premeditated confrontation on Kristin (too bad Kristin turned it around and knocked you to the ground, after you tried your PLANNED cheap shot and she shut you down.) There is a list of these so-called “jokes” of Kristin and others.

Also the morrisbunch, you came to me months back talking shit to me. I did not even know you. You belittled me and told me tour husband is a cop and I better watch out. Stop trying to act innocent, because you were pretty damn rude also.

You have picked at her behind the scenes, and when she speaks up (or me on her behalf, because she knows how mean some can be in the blogosphere), then you say she is slandering you. Remember we sent you the cease and desist letter, not the other way around.

And as far as these “police reports”, please file them and post their public record number (also if I remember right, your friend Jena at the morrisbunch or maybe Jenna said to me along time back, “my husband is a cop so don’t mess with me.”) You said you’re going to file them now for sure, so I guess we will be expecting the police to show up or at least call me, I want to tell the other side and let them know your TRYING to intimidate and harass me with police reports under false pretenses. Also you want my number, get at me.

Do you even know my county? It’s Washington County, OR, and I called them, my local sheriff and police already. This was many months back after you had told everyone in the #nestlefamily hashtag (not like anyone cared, but that day I said enough is enough) that you had already had file police report(S) on me already. But you just stated in your recent blog that your reports are pending now, which is it? Did you file them already or are they pending, or are they FAKE. Please let me know and please blog your answer.

You know this can/could’ve gone away a LONG TIME, by you not talking smack and making fun of Kristin with your momdot pals (when I say momdot pals, I mean the mean ones that have and continue to support trisha with their comments.) Now you both continue to say we have harassed you for years, but where is the proof besides what you can vouch for? I just stated some facts above. So what is your response? You have kept at it, and now it has gone too far. A lot of people have been throwing the term cyber bully around about trisha, and the more I think about ALL the shit you 2 have done, you are the cyber bullies.

And no one is stalking you. Everyone has the right to visit any website they want. I can’t comment even if I wanted to, so what’s your point, do you not remember it’s moderated. I have tried to say something before and you deleted it with no response. And it was only to defend myself or Kristin after your rants that we are stalkers. We have a nice home, 2 beautiful girls, and she has an IMO successful blog. I have visited your blog when I heard you making your lies about Kristin, which can be found in the posts I listed in a couple of posts before this one.

Otherwise what the hell would your blog have that I would want to want to stalk it as you keep on insisting, seriously?

Later all, and right on to the realest.

So it seems many out there love to throw this word around. A lot of the time people online use it as means to hurt peoples feelings, but saying what they said is nothing important, but drame.

Maybe they think, I have tons of followers, so I will say that person is causing drama, and hopefully the domino effect will work. THINK AGAIN…For all the un-hip, non-real like social people, the ones who need to spend some more time around flesh people they DONT KNOW. When you spend your life on the net, people feed into whatever you want, in real life, it dont work like that, just go out in public and act the way you do online. Let me fill you in on what constitutes using the word drama in a slang sense.

Yes, when people make up stuff to cause a problem that is Drama.

People standing up for what is right after seeing fact after fact, are NOT out to start DRAMA.

Anyone who says those who saw the facts and stood up are causing drama, is DRAMA themselves.

Thats it, pretty easy…gangsta.
